Spon's Mechanical and Electrical Services Price Book 2008
With the continued emphasis within the building services industry on the reduction of energy consumption in buildings, and the need to produce a proportion of a building's energy requirement from on-site renewable sources, the Spon's Mechanical and Electrical Services Price Book 2008 edition gives weight to new sections on sustainable energy such as ground water cooling and wind energy and revised entries for higher efficiency chillers and boilers and micro CHP units.
The book comes with a FREE CD–ROM containing Spon's Mechanical & Electrical Services price data. It is updated, free of charge, every four months – see enclosed card to register.
Technical
IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671: 2008)
The IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) are the national standard to which all domestic and industrial wiring must conform. This 17th edition reflects significant changes to both the technical content and structure of the book. Key changes in the volume include extension of the Regulations to cover new 'special locations': exhibition shows, photovoltaic (pv) power supply systems, floor and heating systems, marinas and fairgrounds and amusements parks; a change allowing a socket outlet in bathrooms (if 3ms from the edge of a bath or shower and rcd protected); and re-numbering and re-structuring of chapters to align with international standards. With the 16th edition having been in place since 1991, this is a major revision.
Students setting out for a career in plumbing need a clear, concise and comprehensive textbook to help them study for their Technical Certificate and Level 2 NVQ and this book meets all those needs. Steve Muscroft expertly guides you through each of the key areas and processes in plumbing, from the basics through cold and hot water systems to health and safety and best practice on site. The best way to learn something is to do it for yourself so along with the theory this book is full of practical advice and guidance on how to get the job done. Every chapter is packed with colour photographs and diagrams to make learning easier. To help reinforce understanding, each section features self-test exercises based on the standard City and Guilds assessment method.
Steve Muscroft's Plumbing isn't just a guide to passing the exam it goes into much more detail than other textbooks. Extra material on key topics outside the core syllabus, and references to additional resources and organisations make this book a handy companion as you begin your plumbing career. For the price of a spanner, can you afford to be without it! The book has a new colour layout packed with clear diagrams and photographs. The author helped develop the C&G 6129 scheme and knows what's needed to succeed. Exercises and multiple choice questions matching the C&G style help test learning and ensure you are fully prepared for the assessments.
Detail Practice Lighting Design
More than any building material, light produces spatial effects, generates moods, and "stages" architectural designs. In well-lit spaces, we feel good, and we are capable and effective; light promotes health. Moreover, especially in office buildings, the combination of a sensible natural lighting design with a corresponding approach to artificial lighting is a decisive factor in energy conservation.
Assembled by experienced authors and experts from the worlds of practice and teaching, this new volume in the series Detail Praxis provides an introduction to the most important aspects of natural and artificial lighting design. In addition to straightforward planning rules - such as ground plan design, building orientation, and the structuring of facades - it also introduces and explains current natural and artificial lighting systems with the help of example projects.
This book is updated in line with key changes to the building regulations, including electrical installation safety requirements (Part P), with an additional introductory section outlining essential legislative documents, key elements of safe working practice and information on basic calculations for practical application. It follows the same unique visual style as its companion title Building Construction Handbook (Chudley and Greeno). It features website lecture support material: sets of power point slides for a selection of building services areas featuring essential illustrations, for use with presentations and handouts.
Building Services Handbook summarises all elements of building services practice, techniques and procedures. This new edition contains new and extended information on hot water supply systems, heating control systems, ventilation of buildings, condensing boiler technology and electrical safety.
